Ma Wat River
Ma Wat River is located at Fanling. It connects Kau Lung Hang Shan northwards towards Ng Tung River near Kan Lung Tsuen. The river section with grassed cellular concrete embankment was channelized in 2008. DSD started an ecological enhancement site trial in this section and the immediately downstream section near Jockey Club Road and Fanling Highway in late 2015. Ma Wat River

The watercourse is concrete-lined with grassed cellular concrete embankment. The grassed cellular concrete embankment are largely covered by common vegetation, such as grass, herbs and weedy trees. Aquatic herbs are established on the soil or sand deposited along the concrete bed of the channel.

Several plantations are located at the northern portion of the survey boundary of Ma Wat River. These plantations comprise common exotic and native tree species. The overstorey of these plantations also comprise self-sown trees. Natural colonisation in the understorey of these plantations is quite limited, and largely dominated by common trees.

Developed Area |
Developed areas consist of roads, highways, villages and construction works area. A limited number of vegetation can be found within the construction works area, which mainly include common plants species such as trees and herbs. Rows of trees are also planted along the access road to the east of Tai Wo Service Road East.
