Media Engagement

The DSD continues to present our efforts in introducing innovative technologies, river revitalisation and blue-green drainage infrastructure to the public through different media channels, so as to deepen public understanding of our work. During the reporting year, apart from giving media interviews to channel news about our work, we use soft news as a medium to establish a more dynamic image for the DSD.

Then Chief Engineer Mr TSE Yuet-kar (left) and then Senior Engineer Ms TSANG Wai-wah (right) shared their daily work as well as their thirty-year career and unforgettable memories at the DSD with Apple Daily, Hong Kong Economic Journal, The Standard and Wen Wei Po on 7 November 2019. On 13 November 2019, our then Landscape Architect Mr Chris CHUI Chi-keung gave an interview to Television Broadcasts Limited's programme “A Dream Home Planning" about manhole cover design. Mr CHUI introduced the history of local manhole covers and their categories, as well as the winning entries of our manhole cover design competition. The interview was broadcast on 10 December 2019.

Bringing in New Technologies

On 16 May 2019, our then Electrical and Mechanical Engineer Mr Vincent LEUNG Chi-to (right) and then Engineer Ms Angela TONG Yee-mei (left) were interviewed by Hong Kong Economic Times, Ming Pao, HK01 and Ta Kung Pao. They explained the technical details and advantages of the two sewage treatment technologies, MBR and Moving-bed Biofilm Reactors (MBBR) respectively. The interview was published on 27 May 2019.

Our then Engineer Ms Carol YIP Lai-yuk (left) and Professor WANG Yu-hsing of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (centre) and his team were interviewed by Information Services Department, Ming Pao, South China Morning Post and Ta Kung Pao on 27 May 2019. They presented the Green AI egretry monitoring technology used in the project of Relocation of Sha Tin Sewage Treatment Works to Caverns. The relevant articles were published on 9 June 2019.

Promoting River Revitalisation

 

On 6 June 2019, the Apple Daily exclusively interviewed our then Engineers, Mr Keith TAM Kit-fan (centre) and Ms Queenie IP Yuen-yi (left), about the river greening pilot scheme of River Indus. They briefed the reporter on the DSD's continuous effort in greening and improving the ecology and drainage capacity of rivers. They also gave details of the pilot scheme. The report was published on 25 June 2019.

During an interview conducted on 4 October 2019, our Senior Engineer, Mr Richard LEUNG Wah-ming, shared the DSD's proposals for revitalising water bodies with reporters from Apple Daily, Bastille Post, Hong Kong Economic Times, Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily. Mr LEUNG also explained various river revitalisation elements, such as submerged planters and fish shelters. The articles were published on 9 October 2019.

On 23 January 2020, Apple Daily, Oriental Daily, Sing Tao Daily and Ta Kung Pao conducted an interview with our Engineer, Ms Maggie YIP Pui-kei (left), and Professor Onyx WAI (right), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Details of the completed Site Trials on Ecological Enhancement Works and the Eco-Hydraulic Study conducted at Hung Shui Kiu Nullah were provided to the press. The interviews were published on 30 January 2020.

Developing Blue-Green Drainage Infrastructure

On 11 April 2019, RTHK's “830 Mag” interviewed our Senior Engineer Mr Simon LAI Yuk-on, Engineer Mr Alex LAU Yiu-man and then Engineer Mr Tommy WONG Tak-shing, presented our flood prevention facilities and precautionary measures for the rainy season. The interview was broadcast on 13 May 2019.
