Environmental Protection

Most of the construction work under IRTS project is being carried out within the Kam Shan Country Park. Therefore, the project team is highly committed to protecting the surrounding environment and ecology. Kam Shan Country Park is an area where macaques frequently roam and inhabit. The project team paid special attention to implement good site management and preventive measures, such as requiring workers to avoid eating within the construction area, refrain from feeding wild animals and using plastic bags. The garbage bins on the construction site were covered and difficult to open by hand, which could prevent attracting animals into the construction area.

To minimize the environmental impact during the construction period, the contractor has implemented a series of environmental protection measures:

Noise

Provision of noise enclosure

Excavation with a tunnel boring machine to reduce vibration and noise

Regular noise monitoring

Management of construction and demolition (C&D) materials

Recycling the spoils generated from tunnel excavation

Sorting and recycling of scrap material
