In order to improve the drainage capacity of Kai Tak River and to mitigate flooding risk to surrounding areas, the Drainage Services Department is carrying out improvement works at the upstream and midstream sections of Kai Tak River. The improvement works will complete within this year. This Newsletter provides you with information on latest progress of the main construction and other relevant information of the projects.

We were bestowed the Association of Consulting Engineers of Hong Kong (ACEHK) Annual Award 2017.

The project team adopted innovative design and technology, such as Early Rainstorm Alarm System which was co-developed with Hong Kong Observatory and innovative design for strengthening the river walls.

Upstream Section

In 2017, we have completed more than 80% of the box culverts in the upstream section. After the commencement of dry season, we are in full progress to construct the remain box culverts, including those near Shatin Pass Road and Tai Shing Street. The river deepening works from Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate to Tung Kwong Road have been completed around 70%.  The remaining sections near Morse Park No.1, Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate and Wong Tai Sin Police Station are in progress. In addition, we have commenced the river beautification works and planting along the river sides.
