Design of the Landscaped Deck

The landscaped deck is one of the highlights of this project. In order to create an inclusive platform that can accommodate people of all ages and different needs to enjoy, DSD commissioned the Playright Children’s Play Association (Playright) to design the landscaped deck. We meet Playright regularly to discuss the theme and layout, as well as the provision of play and recreation facilities on the landscaped deck. (Detailed information about Playright and the design concept of the landscaped deck will be elaborated in the next page)

About ‘Playright’: The valuable experience of promoting Tuen Mun Park's inclusive playground

In 2015, Playright teamed up with the Hong Kong Committee for the United Nations Children’s Fund and the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects to organize the ‘Inclusive Play Space Design Idea Competition’ to collect innovative design. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Architectural Services Department adopted the winning entries to establish Hong Kong’s first inclusive playground at Tuen Mun Park as a pilot scheme. The design introduces the ideas from the children and allows them to fully participate throughout the process. This demonstrated that children are being respected.

Incorporate community’s opinions in our design to create an amusement space for the citizens

During the discussion regarding the design of the landscaped deck, DSD understood that Playright will incorporate the public's ideas into the design of the amusement space through workshops (please refers to ‘PlaySpace Dream Catchers’ for more information), hoping to bring fun and diverse play experience to different ages in the community. DSD highly appreciates this concept and accepts Playright’s suggestion, hoping to integrate children’s ideas into the design of the landscaped deck.

Preventive Measures at Construction Site

The Drainage Services Department put high emphasis on the tidiness and hygiene of the construction site. In view of the outbreak of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, we have strengthened the preventive measures at site. All site staff are required to check their body temperature when entering and leaving the site. If any site staff have family member returned from oversea living with them, they are also required to quarantine at home to reduce the risk of disease transmission.
